Everywhere on earth, people are on the move. Air transport of passengers worldwide has steadily increased from just over 300 million in 1970 to almost 4.1 billion in 2017. The expansion of air networks is the result of liberal air regulations and the rise of lowcost carriers. Air freight (the transport of goods by plane) too has increased over twelve-fold since 1970.
